Founder of Sammy’s Restaurants, Sammy Vela, has always been surrounded by great cooking. He learned in his “mama’s kitchen” at an early age what it meant to “cook with love.” Exceptional cuisine became his passion, and he always knew that someday he’d be a restaurateur.

Sammy learned restaurant management from the ground up as a teenager after accepting his first “official” job at a fast-food establishment – and never looked back. He learned about speed, efficiency and service, and took those skills to other restaurants. He was employed at a chain steakhouse over the course of 15 years. His plan was to “piece it all together” and discover the secret of how (and how not) to operate a restaurant.

His understanding that customers simply wanted a night out to mingle or just to escape the pressures of the office led him to open his first sports grill in Villagio to the delight of Katyites who wanted a local place to dine, watch games on big screen televisions, and enjoy a family-friendly environment. Sammy’s Sports Grill is now for many a home away from home where they can relax have have someone else do the cooking. Sammy’s Sports Grill really is all about family. Sammy’s wife Berta and their daughters Koryn and Lexi often stop by to help with the family owned and operated enterprise.

In 2017, Sammy’s long time dream of opening a steak house was realized, with Sammy’s Steakhouse located in Long Meadow Farms, convenient for Richmond, Katy and Fulshear residents. Properly seasoned and cooked prime steaks and exciting seafood dishes from former ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ winning Chef Ja’Nel Witt have been winning the hearts of our customers in the community. This restaurant also offers signature craft cocktails handmade with the finest liquors, mixers and fresh squeezed juices and generous happy hour features. A comprehensive wine list, including 20 wines available by the glass has been created by managing partner/resident Sommelier Bill Loveday, who has focused on offering unique wines at a fair price, especially on ‘Wine Wednesdays’ when wines on the bottle and by the glass list are offered at 25 to 50% discount.

Later this year, Sammy’s Ritas & Fajitas will be opening, plus a few more sports grills are on the horizon. By the end of the year, Sammy’s Restaurants will reach 10 restaurants in the Houston and nearby area.
